Gila Monster Fade Away

Here's a painting of a gila monster in the style of Coles Phillips' fade away technique. I found an image of the animal online and changed it enough to be able to call it my own. This was one of the most simplistic works I've ever done, which was a nice change of pace. The image you see here is different from the original in that I selected the background color in Photoshop and made it closer to the actual color of a gila monster. I had spraypainted the background in a darker, browner color because of the cool texture that it had to it, making it look like sand, but unfortunately you can only see it close-up. Plus, I couldn't find a closer color in spraypaint or get a flat enough color with tube paints without brushmarks. You can see what the original color of the background looked like in my scraps.
